Enhance These Areas with Replacement Windows

Windows are a critical part of the home. They provide daylight, expansive views, and ventilation. They enhance the aesthetics both inside and out. And they also insulate the home and help to keep it safe and secure. For these reasons, adding or getting replacement windows in Portland, OR can have a huge impact on certain areas of the home.

Small Kitchens

The kitchen is communal. And because it is where you cook, heat and humidity can quickly overrun a small space. The more natural light and ventilation you can get, the better. This can be tricky in small kitchens with very little exterior wall space. Most kitchens have a small window above the sink. Homeowners can capitalize on this space by installing a projection window. Bay windows or garden windows will project outside and add a little square footage to the inside. It will also filter in more natural light. Another consideration is adding transom windows above the cabinets. This will create some height and make it feel more spacious.

Tiny Bathrooms

Usually, bathrooms are a place where you want more privacy, which used to mean fewer windows. But privacy options on new windows make it easier to installer larger windows in the bathroom. A lot of modern homes feature larger picture windows with etched glass placed over the tub or shower. This allows more daylight inside but doesn’t allow people to see in. Skylights are another popular option to increase daylight in the bathroom and make the room feel more spacious.

Little Bedrooms

Most bedrooms require one egress window that can act as an escape route in case of an emergency. Unfortunately, most builders tend to install small windows to meet the minimum size requirements. And a small window in a bedroom can make it feel like a cave. Adding more windows or replacing a window in a small bedroom is a great option.

Dim Entryways

The entryway is one of the first experiences visitors have in your home, and you want it to be a good first impression. Unfortunately, a lot of entries have solid doors and small spaces to work with. This is another area where adding windows can make a huge impact. You might consider adding a transom window above the door, or sidelights to either side. The added daylight will really help open up space and make the area more inviting. It will also boost the curb appeal of the home.

Dark Hallways

Last, but not least, you might consider adding windows to the long, dark hallways of your home. This might not be possible for interior halls placed between rooms. But on the second story, it is possible to add skylights to help make the hallway brighter. And if you do have a hallway that runs along an exterior wall, you can get really creative with space and add custom picture windows of unique shapes and sizes to create something truly spectacular.
